During that initial consultation we will find out from you the factual background of the matter. We will give you initial advice on whether, based on the information available, you may have a valid case. The Consumer Rights Act 2015
This Act provides statutory rights when a consumer buys goods from a seller who is acting in the course of a trade or business. If it applies, the goods must be:-
- of satisfactory quality
- fit for a particular purpose
- as described
For services, if the Act applies, the agreed task must be carried out:-
- with reasonable skill and care
- within a reasonable time
The kind of queries we can help with include:-
- Contract disputes
- Refund claims

- Problems with a car you’ve bought / had repaired
- Defects with an item you’ve bought from a shop
- Dispute with someone who has provided you with a service
We can also advise the seller / service provider on any of the above queries for the same fixed fee provided we haven’t already advised the other party.
If you decide that you do want us to act for you after that initial fixed fee call, and if we are prepared to act for you, then we will send you a Client Care Letter confirming:-
- what we are offering to do
- who will be the fee earner dealing with your case
- an estimate of fees, and
Having read through the Client Care Letter, if you do want to proceed to become a client of the firm, we will ask you to provide us with:-
- identification
- a payment on account, and
- documents to support your case.
It should be noted that most claims that have a value of up to £10k, if they do need to be pursued to Court, are unlikely to be costs bearing. This means that even if you win your claim you are unlikely to recover much if anything of your legal fees.
However, we can still point you in the right direction even if you don’t want representation throughout the claim and, in any event, we appreciate that there are some occasions when you will want to pursue a case as a matter of principle.
